Springtime Life Explosion
Springtime= everything is exploding, in a nice way (mostly).
I’m not very good at longform posts at the moment, because my brain is a shrunken sleep-deprived pile of mush, but I would just like to document the lovely things that are currently going right.
The Sourdough is Sourdough-ing
The Chickens are Chicken-ing*
*I must now add that a very sad thing happened to most of the chicks we recently hatched. We tried to put them under a broody hen with brutally (*broodally*) fatal consequences. Do not do what we did unless you have a proven good mother hen, like a silkie hen. This is our 4th (or 5th?) round of hatching chicks and this was our first attempt at having a hen raise them. Now we know: never trust a chicken.
The Goats are Goating
Goats make me nervous. Three out of the nine goats are pregnant, and due around the 2nd week of May, which is like tomorrow or something. One terrible thing I’ve learned about animal husbandry is that many things can and do go wrong, and I’m holding my breath for these upcoming goat births. My goal (*goat goal*) is to keep a cool head and continue to have everything at the ready. What else can one do?
The Cats are Catting
The farm kittens are so cute. It’s just incredible. There’s really nothing like an adorable kitten sitting in your lap and purring it’s heart out. They’re almost old enough to go to good homes.
The Gooslings are Goosing
(Gooslings is much more fun to say than Goslings. Try it.)
I didn’t think I would love geese. But I do. I absolutely do. Frida and Pablo are Pilgrim Geese, and they’re supposed to be a friendlier breed. I think that’s right so far because they follow us literally anywhere when we’re outside. They’re whip smart and more like dogs, really. They love cucumbers best at the moment, and they’re so ridiculously funny when they waddle-run to you because they know you have a treat for them.
That’s all for now. Ciao.
